Dissecting Cancer : Learn from the Basic

Hallo, Welcome to my blog. This blog is my learning journal diary. Today we will talk about the basic of cancer. About the terminology and basic classification.

Here is the basic terminology of cancer:

Cancer means the uncontrolled growth and division of abnormal cells in a part of the body.

A tumor is a swelling in a part of the body, generally without inflammation, caused by abnormal growth of tissue, whether it's benign or malignant.

Neoplasm means a new and abnormal growth of tissue in some part of the body.

What causes cancer? Is it caused by genetic issues? Yes.

                                  Is it caused by a single mutation? No.

Cancer is caused by the accumulation of detrimental variations in the genome over the course of a lifetime.

Actually, a long time ago, doctors said cancer is called "cancer" because it looks like a crab, with red swollen veins.

Oncology is the subject that studies cancer, where "onco" stands for bulk or mass of a tumor.

Metastasis means migration, change, revolution. The real definition of metastasis is the spreading of cancer from the primary site to distant organs.

Classification of cancer 

Based on Origin of the tissue : 

1. Carcinoma : Cancer come from Epithelial tissue  

                        Adenocarcinomas : Organ/Glands, example : prostate, breast, liver

                           Squamous cell carcinomas : Squamous cell lining : skin bladder, esophagus, lungs

2. Sarcoma : Cancer come from connective tissue in bones, tendons, cartilages,muscle, fat 

                     (usually we found them in muskularsystem area)

3. Leukimia : Blood Cancer : Original site from Bone marrow

4. Lymphoma : lymph system

Based on Hystological stages :

                Normal >> Hyperplasia >> Mild Dysplasia >> Carcinoma insitu >> Cancer
